GRANT-VALKARIA, Fla. – A toddler drowned last week in Brevard County, prompting sheriff’s officials to launch a death investigation.
The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office told News 6 on Thursday the 1-year-old drowned in the Indian River.

Rescuers in Grant near US-1 and Shell Pit Road reported on Jan. 27 at 11:15 a.m. the girl went missing from a waterfront house.
Neighbor Doug Peacock also lives on the river and said his wife offered to help look for the toddler.
‘’She stayed there until they found the little girl and she saw them bring the little girl and put her in an ambulance,’’ Peacock said.
The sheriff’s office said the girl didn’t make it.
A week later, neighbors are still waiting to learn more on how she drowned while authorities say the investigation is still active.
Peacock said he’s wondering if the toddler’s death was a result of negligence. The sheriff’s office did not answer that question Thursday.
‘’Anytime you lose a little child like that, it’s bad,’’ Peacock said.
The sheriff’s office said no one has been arrested.
