MAITLAND, Fla. – Victoria Pope drove from Sanford to Maitland to bring her daughter Eliza, 2, to get her first covid-19 vaccine.
Pope said she heard about the site at the Roth Jewish Community Center opening on Friday.

“It was a short wait time which is great for little kids, and we were able to get in there fill in paperwork and then they monitor for 15 minutes afterward and there’s space for them to walk around and play a little bit which is good for a wiggle little two-year-old,” Pope said.
Florida Sen. Randolph Bracy, D-Orlando, showed up at the site on Friday to check things out.
Bracy explained on Thursday that distribution was supposed to begin July 1 but got pushed back amid questions about splitting adult doses to use on children younger than 5.
The vaccine site at the Roth Jewish Community Center will be open on Fridays from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., where 200 doses of the Moderna vaccine are set to be available for children 6 months to 5 years old.
“We do try and do story time at the library and different events to get her into more social settings and it’s been hard with the pandemic. She’s been kinda locked down. So, we are really excited to have her be out in a normal setting again,” Pope said.
