OCALA, Fla. – A 5-year-old boy drowned in a community swimming pool Sunday at an Ocala apartment complex, according to police.
Ocala police said the child was found unresponsive in a pool at the Grand Reserve Apartments, on SW 24th Avenue.

Police began CPR until Ocala Fire Rescue arrived and took the child to a hospital, but the boy did not survive, police said.
“Our hearts go out to his family during this extremely difficult time,” Ocala police said in a statement.
No other details have been released, and an investigation is ongoing.
Florida has one of the highest rates of unintentional child drownings in the country. According to the Florida Department of Children and Families, 68 children have died by drowning so far this year.
There were 98 drownings in 2021 and 69 in 2020.
