Detectives searching for man who attempted to abduct girl at Umatilla bus stop

Attempted kidnapping occurred at 14000 block of 202nd Terrace on Sept. 22

MARION COUNTY, Fla. – Marion County detectives are seeking information on a man who attempted to force a girl into a car at an Umatilla bus stop nearly two weeks ago.

Deputies said they responded to the attempted abduction at 14000 block of 202nd Terrace around 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 22.

The girl told deputies she did not recognize the man, but described him as white with tan skin and brown and gray hair, according to the sheriff’s office.

Detectives added he was “driving an older model, red, two-door pickup with faded paint, peeling window tint, and rust on the rims and wheel well.”

Anyone that can help deputies locate the man for questioning is asked to call Detective Kip Peterson at 352-368-3539 or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers of Marion County at 352-368-STOP (7867). Tips for this case can also be submitted at the following website with the reference number 22-58.

Anyone who submits tips leading to an arrest through Crime Stoppers is eligible for a cash reward, deputies said.
