End to Florida gas tax holiday pumps prices back up

Tax holiday expires Nov. 1

ORLANDO, Fla. – Florida drivers will notice a higher price at the gas pump Tuesday as the state’s tax holiday ended.

According to AAA, the tax holiday gave a 25-cent discount to drivers through October.

“That’s crazy. That’s going to definitely impact my budget at home,” said Jordan Rodriquez, who works construction in Orlando. “It’s horrible because for us that work in construction, have to drive a lot, it’s a big cost for the company.”

A gas station on Kirkman Road saw a jump from $3.21 per gallon on Monday to now $3.47 a gallon on Tuesday morning.

The tax holiday went into effect on Oct. 1, bringing prices down for Florida drivers. However, the discount didn’t last long when prices jumped as OPEC announced plans to cut production.

During the gas tax suspension, the price for fuel fluctuated but still remained above $3 a gallon.

Ways to save on gasoline

  • Combine errands to limit driving time.
  • Shop around for the best gas prices in your community.
  • Consider paying cash. Some retailers charge extra per gallon for customers who pay with a credit card.
  • Remove excess weight in your vehicle.
  • Drive conservatively. Aggressive acceleration and speeding reduce fuel economy.
