Family celebrates 25th birthday of father killed in Orlando hit-and-run

Joshua Hoyt was killed in a hit-and-run crash back in March after his son was born

ORLANDO, Fla. – Nearly seven months after Josiah Hoyt was killed in an Orlando hit-and-run crash, his family celebrated what would have been his 25th birthday.

Hoyt had recently moved from New York to Orlando ahead of the birth of his child.

In March, while Hoyt was headed to the hospital to sign his newborn son’s birth certificate, he was struck and killed by an oncoming car.

Hoyt’s stepfather, Don Bianchi, said Hoyt’s loved ones recently celebrated Hoyt’s first birthday since his passing.

“We just celebrated Josiah’s birthday on Oct. 10 this past month,” Bianchi said.

Bianchi also said the family is teaching Hoyt’s son about his father.

“He was there during the candlelight, and it was special. It’s heartfelt, but it’s very special too,” Bianchi said.

Following the crash, police said the vehicle involved in the crash was found nearby.

Last month, Orlando police said they’ve identified a person of interest in the traffic homicide. At that time, though, there still had not been any arrests.

Bianchi said the driver should turn themselves in.

“You’ve got to show some type of remorse. You have to show remorse for what you did. And then we can move forward,” Bianchi said.

Bianchi told News 6 that he speaks regularly with the lead detective in the case and feels confident in their efforts.

“I have faith in the Orlando Police Department and the good state of Florida that justice will be served, and you know, it may not be when I want it,” he said. “It may not be when his mom wants it or the the rest of us, but it will happen, and when it happens, we will be there.”
