DAVENPORT, Fla. – Walmart has announced that 400 employees at its distribution center in Polk County will be affected in a “reduction in force,” according to a letter from the company to Florida officials.
The 2.2 million square foot facility located at 5100 N. Ridge Trail in Davenport opened in 2017, with then-Gov. Rick Scott on hand.

Walmart’s news release in 2017 stated in part that the location was “a massive, state-of-the-art facility that is estimated to bring more than 1,500 jobs to Polk County.”
“We’re excited not only about the economic impact our facility has had, and will continue to have, in the community, but also how it will help us empower our customers to shop when and how they want,” Nate Faust, senior vice president of Walmart U.S. eCommerce Supply Chain, said at the time.

According to the letter, the 400 affected employees can apply for open positions at other Walmart stores, Sam’s Clubs or other company facilities during a paid job search period.
Employees were notified about the layoffs on or before Feb 24, Walmart officials said. Officials said that all associated that do not accept positions at other Walmart facilities will separate from the company, effective June 2.
