New details emerge in road rage shooting near Winter Springs

Driver in Chevrolet Camaro opened fire near Red Bug Lake, Tuskawilla roads, deputies say

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. – A new report released Thursday details what led to a road rage shooting earlier this week near Winter Springs.

The Seminole County Sheriff’s Office said a 34-year-old man driving a white Hyundai Elantra was shot just before noon Tuesday near Red Bug Lake and Tuskawilla roads.

According to a sheriff’s office incident report, the man told investigators that the driver of a Chevrolet Camaro was tailgating him before pulling ahead and “slowing down in front of him for no reason,” forcing him to also slow down.

The driver of the Elantra said he passed the Camaro and flipped off the driver before he heard two “loud bangs” and felt pain in his left leg, according to the report.

The sheriff’s office said the driver tried to follow the Camaro while calling law enforcement but lost sight of the vehicle near Eagle Circle in Casselberry.

Sheriff’s officials said the driver of the Elantra no longer wants to pursue charges, but the case remains open.

The man was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, officials said.

No other details about the suspected shooter or Camaro have been released.
