Orlando officer formally charged after driving off during traffic stop

Alexander Shaouni charged with fleeing and resisting an officer

ORLANDO, Fla. – An Orlando police officer who was captured on body camera video fleeing from a traffic stop last month has been formally charged, according to court records filed on Wednesday.

Court records show Officer Alexander Shaouni was formally charged with resisting an officer without violence and fleeing from law enforcement.

On June 6, Shaouni was pulled over for driving a marked Orlando Police Department SUV at least 80 mph in a 45 mph zone in Seminole County, deputies said.

Body camera video shows that the deputy got out of his vehicle to meet with Shaouni. Officer Shaouni, who was in a uniform with his name on it, said he was going to work.

When the deputy asked what type of call, Shaouni said, “Look how I am dressed. What do you think?”

Video also shows Shaouni refused to provide his driver’s license during the stop, instead getting back into his SUV and driving off.

The police department later told News 6 that Shaouni was relieved of duty pending an investigation.
