Mom admits to strangling 13-year-old son at Osceola County home, deputies say

Jasmin Kennedy, 37, faces several charges

OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. – A woman faces charges after deputies said she confessed to strangling her 13-year-old son at a home near St. Cloud on Monday.

Osceola County Sheriff Marcos Lopez said deputies responded to a home on Crosley Avenue around 7:30 a.m., and upon arrival found a boy dead in a bed.

Lopez said while on the scene, a woman — identified as Jasmin Kennedy, 37 — told deputies she killed her son.

According to deputies, Kennedy is cooperating with the investigation, but it is ongoing.

Lopez said Kennedy faces charges of domestic battery by strangulation, child neglect and aggravated child abuse.

When asked if more serious charges could be coming, Lopez said, “What we do is in this case, based on her statements and there were some signs of strangulation. We have to wait for the medical examiner’s office to confirm the cause of death and they’re pretty good at turning these type of cases around and getting us that information. And as soon as we get that from them, we’ll know the exact cause of death and what to charge her additionally.”

This is a developing story and will be updated with more information as we receive it.
