Stepfather shoots stepdaughter, turns gun on himself at Volusia apartments

Police responded to shooting at Sanctuary at West Port Apartments

PORT ORANGE, Fla. – A stepfather shot his stepdaughter before turning the gun on himself Wednesday evening, according to the Port Orange Police Department.

Police said they responded to the Sanctuary at West Port Apartments complex around 7:20 p.m. after receiving a call about the shooting.

Investigators said that the shooting “stemmed from a domestic disturbance” between the stepfather and his adult stepdaughter.

According to investigators, he then shot his stepdaughter before shooting himself, and both were taken to the hospital in critical condition.

While the stepfather died at the hospital, the woman is continuing to receive treatment while in critical condition, police said.
