Alligator bites 2 people in head at Alexander Springs in Lake County

Springs closed until further notice

LAKE COUNTY, Fla. – Two people were bitten in the head by an alligator at Alexander Springs in Lake County, according to WCJB in Gainesville.

According to WCJB, the attacks happened on different days.

Earlier this year, a man snorkeling at the springs in the Ocala National Forest was bitten by a large gator.

The nearly 8-foot-long alligator believed to be involved in that incident was removed and the swim area is expected to reopen in the near future, officials said.

“Every body of water has a potential to have an alligator, especially the springs,” Chad Weber with Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said in July. “I mean, that’s kind of a misconception that just because the water’s cooler, they won’t be in there.”

The springs is closed until further notice.
