Public Works Director for Osceola County, Mehul Parekh, said they’ve checked lake levels, secured construction sites and are monitoring flooding hotspots.

“So, our road and bridge crews have been out there since this morning checking all the hotspots and any area that they already know that are prone to flooding and our construction staff is managing the projects, and they are trying to safe up the area and remove all the things that may fly away or flood — they’re setting up their sites as of today,” Parekh said.

Parekh said they’ve checked the lake levels and they are at levels that can handle the storms heading our way.

Osceola County officials also sent out a release which said in part: “Public Works inspected outfalls, storm drains and known problem areas. Staff has been performing maintenance and clearing debris as needed. Additional on-call trucks will allow for quicker response in the event of any calls for service.”

Parekh also suggested residents should prepare by securing any loose items in their yard such as Christmas decorations.

“They should tighten up the things that are loose around the house and make sure their yards don’t have anything that is flying away especially nowadays we have Christmas decorations so securing them would be a good idea,” Parekh said.

Osceola County said there are no plans to distribute sandbags at this time. The County also suggests residents sign up for Alert Osceola Emergency notifications. To do so, text AlertOsceola to 888777.
