Emergency cold weather shelters open as temperatures fall in Central Florida

ORLANDO, Fla. – With temperatures expected to fall overnight tonight, some emergency cold weather shelters are open in three Central Florida counties.

Here are the counties where emergency cold weather shelters are opening.

Flagler County

The Sheltering Tree is opening a shelter Monday night for anyone who is without heat, even if they aren’t homeless.

The shelter is at the Rock Transformation Center located at 2200 N. State Street. The shelter will open at 5 p.m. and close at 8 a.m. the following day.

Volusia County

Two shelters are opening in Volusia County for people who are without a warm place to stay.

On the west side of the county, The Neighborhood Center’s The Bridge will be open. People need to arrive no later than 6 p.m. to secure shelter. The shelter is located at 421 S. Palmetto Ave. in DeLand. For more info or assistance, call 386-734-8120, ext. 601.

On the east side of the county, Halifax Urban Ministries is coordinating with churches to offer shelter. If you need help, call the ministry at 386-317-5886.

Brevard County

LifePointe Ministries in Titusville is opening at 9 p.m. to provide shelter in North Brevard County. The shelter is located at 4220 S. Hopkins Ave.

Tonight’s forecast

A strong cold front blasts in late Monday, allowing 30s and 40s to spill back into Central Florida early Tuesday.

Patchy frost will be possible north of Orlando, but the elevated breeze will prevent widespread frost from appearing.

Even with sunshine Wednesday, highs top out in the upper 50s.

A gradual warming trend arrives for the middle of the week.

Thursday marks the first day of winter.
