Man arrested weeks after fatal shooting at vacant Ocala lot

OCALA, Fla. – A man was arrested on Wednesday weeks after a fatal shooting in Ocala, according to the police department.

Police said the shooting happened around 8:20 p.m. in a vacant lot near the 1900 block of SW 1st Street on Dec. 22.

At the time, officers responded to the area after a report about the shooting, and they discovered 34-year-old McKenzie Roundtree dead at the scene with several gunshot wounds, investigators explained.

In a release, police said that they were eventually able to trace the shooting back to a single suspect — Zy’Wantre Lester, 23.

As a result, Lester was taken into custody on Wednesday. He faces a charge of first-degree murder.
