ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – A man was shot during an attempted robbery early Friday at a gas station in Pine Hills, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded around 1:23 a.m. to the Circle K at 6949 Silver Star Road, locating the wounded man and soon apprehending 18-year-old Tylon Dunn and 25-year-old Robert Menist-Mendez across the street, according to the duo’s arrest affidavits.

The victim, who Menist-Mendez is accused of shooting, has so far only been identified as a man in his 30s. A store employee told deputies that she was taking out the trash when she heard a loud pop from inside of the convenience store, entering to see the man — who she said is her co-worker — walking toward her and saying someone had shot him, the affidavits describe. The employee then used a towel to put pressure on the man’s wound and called 911, deputies said.

Deputies reported locating the victim on the ground inside of the store, where he could be heard speaking about “a robbery gone wrong” and how he had been shot with a revolver.

He was taken to a hospital in stable condition, the affidavit said.

Following further investigation and interviews, deputies reported locating a revolver with one spent casing.

Dunn and Menist-Mendez both face a charge of armed robbery with a deadly weapon and mask, with Menist-Mendez facing an additional charge of attempted murder with a firearm, deputies said.
