ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – The third annual Orange County Mayor’s Open House and Job Fair on Saturday attracted hundreds of people curious about full and part-time work within their local government.
Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings hosted the event, meeting with and educating people about county government jobs.
The job fair was a chance for many to apply for the 1,200 full and part-time positions available.
“We’re looking to fill lots of vacancies with utilities, public works, we have positions with the convention center, pretty much we can fill the needs of those seeking employment,” said Dr. Yvette Best with Orange County Human Resources.

Michael Saylor is a father of two kids.
“It’s always good to keep your opportunities open, see what’s out there, see what the competition is, really see what you’re worth is,” Saylor said.
Rolando Gonzales came out to the job fair, too. He’s graduating from college in December from an online program in Venezuela.
“I figure there are so many opportunities for people who come from a different county,” he said.
The county said some of the openings are because of people relocating and others retiring.
Many people also got a special tour of the mayor’s office by Demings himself, learning more about working for the county.
“We wanted to open it up and invite them in, but also give them an opportunity to apply for jobs,” Demings said. “There will be people who will apply today who will get a job within Orange County.”
