District said rezoning necessary to balance student population and capacity

OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. – The Osceola County School District is set to discuss attendance rezoning for the 2024-2025 school year.

The district’s planning services department put together proposed attendance zone boundaries for Central Avenue Elementary, Flora Ridge Elementary, Harmony Community School, Hickory Tree Elementary, Island Village Elementary, Narcooseee Elementary, Reedy Creek Elementary, Sunrise Elementary, Harmony Middle, Horizon Middle, Kissimmee Middle, Narcooseee Middle, K-8 School “BB” and K-8 School “CC.”

According to the school district, it’s possible around 3,000 students in Osceola County could be impacted by the attendance rezoning.

The Osceola County School district’s planning services department said the rezoning is necessary to balance student population and student capacity.

The students will either be rezoned to one of the new K-8 schools or some elementary students could be moved to two existing elementary schools, the district said. Just last year, construction crews broke ground on the a new school “BB” K-8 at Knightsbridge off Poinciana Boulevard. The district said some students have the opportunity to be moved to the new school from Central Avenue Elementary, Sunrise Elementary and Flora Ridge Elementary.

Parents with kids at Flora Ridge Elementary said they love the school.

“Actually I love this school,” said Fatima Madroupi. “My two daughters were going to charter school but I changed them to this school and I love it. It’s a better education.”

Based on the district’s focus area demographics, Flora Ridge could see one of the biggest impacts with 407 students moving to the K-8 school on Knightsbridge also known as “BB.”

The K-8 school on Knightsbridge would also take students from Reedy Creek Elementary, Kissimmee Middle, and Horizon Middle school totaling out at more than 2,000 students changing schools.

But not all students will attend the new K-8 schools, some students could be rezoned to existing elementary schools. For example, the district said some students at Harmony Community School are recommended to redistrict to Hickory Tree Elementary.

The second K-8 school also known as “CC” located on Voyager Avenue would pull students from Narcooseee Elementary, Harmony Community, Narcoossee Middle, and Harmony Middle.

The redistricting for this K-8 school would impact around 1,100 students for the 2024-2025 school year.
