PALM BAY, Fla. – Two people were killed and two Palm Bay officers were wounded Sunday afternoon in a shooting following a domestic incident, police said.

According to a news release, Palm Bay police responded to the 400 block of Forgal Avenue NE for a domestic disturbance around 2:07 p.m.

Palm Bay police chief Mariano Augello said officers encountered the suspect, identified as 24-year-old Brandon Kapas, which resulted in an exchange of gunfire after Kapas refused to comply with officer’s verbal demands.

Two Palm Bay police officers were shot and taken to the hospital, according to Augello.

“They are going to survive, ” Augello said, while speaking about the two officers who were shot.

According to the release, additional officers responded to the area and pursued the Kapas “who fatally wounded another person before being engaged by law enforcement and subsequently killed.”

“We pursued him to ensure our citizens were safe,” Augello said.
