The school board followed the recommendation of the Book Advisory Committee, voting 3-1 to remove the title from school shelves.
“Parents have the choice to limit what their children read already, and they’re not using it, so why are we making that choice for them?” asked District 3 Board Member Jennifer Jenkins.

“When you look at this, as a former teacher, there is no educational value at all. There’s just not,” argued District 4 Board Member Matt Susin.
The book is the latest to be pulled from shelves in Brevard County over content concerns, with other titles including the following:
- “Home Body,” Rupi Kaur
- “Milk and Honey,” Rupi Kaur
- “The Sun and Her Flowers,” Rupi Kaur
The books were taken out due to HB 1069, a Florida law passed last year that requires schools to remove materials that can be considered “pornographic, harmful to minors, or describe or depict sexual conduct.”
