Motorcyclist killed, passenger critically injured in Sanford crash on SR-46

Crash happened around 6:56 p.m. near Richmond Avenue

SANFORD, Fla. – Traffic was shut down in Sanford on Thursday evening after a crash killed a driver and injured two others, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the crash happened around 6:56 p.m. at State Road 46 and Richmond Avenue.

In a release, troopers said that two vehicles were involved: a 2010 Honda CRV and a 2001 Yamaha Motorcycle.

According to troopers, the motorcycle had been heading east along SR-46 when the Honda tried to make a left turn south onto Richmond Avenue.

As a result, the front of the motorcycle collided with the back of the Honda, the release states.

The driver of the motorcycle — a 44-year-old man from Geneva — was pronounced dead at the scene, the release shows.

Meanwhile, troopers explained that a passenger on the motorcycle — a 47-year-old woman from Geneva — was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

The driver of the Honda — a 24-year-old man from Vero Beach — was taken to the hospital with minor injuries, troopers added.

The release says that as a result of the crash, the eastbound and westbound lanes of State Road 46 were blocked, though they have since reopened.
