Following several road rage shootings on Florida roadways, law enforcement is working to make arrests and send a stern message to any possible future offenders.
The family of David Alex Sligh, 30, said they don’t want another family to lose a loved one because of a senseless shooting.
Sligh was killed during one such shooting along Colonial Drive last month. In that case, Nicholas Carrasquillo, 26, was later arrested and charged with first-degree murder in Sligh’s death.
“All he did was change lanes,” Sligh’s mother, Debbie Bouton, said.
“Why take a gun? You know why would you want to kill someone because you are not doing that if you are in the grocery store and someone bumps your cart. You aren’t thinking, ‘Oh, bang bang.’ What is it about the car? There’s something about the car,” Bouton said.
“Unfortunately, more people have become more inclined to let their emotions guide their reaction to these situations,” former Orlando Police Chief Orlando Rolon said. “Human nature calls for you to either flee, to basically stand your ground, to defend yourself. It is just part of the human being that triggers some of these emotions.”
Rolon recommends people calm others in the same vehicle as them if they become upset.
