ORLANDO, Fla. – A 12-year-old child was arrested at an Orlando middle school on Wednesday, according to the Orlando Police Department.
Police told News 6 that while classes were in session at Lake Nona Middle School, the child “became verbally aggressive and physically violent with school staff and the School Resource Officer.”

At the time, the child reportedly struck the officer and removed the officer’s radio mic, police added.
In a release, the police department explained that school staff and the officer tried to “de-escalate the altercation.”

However, the altercation prompted the officer to use pepper spray on the student, the release shows.
As a result, the child was taken to Nemours Children’s Hospital “for medical clearance out of an abundance of caution,” though no injuries to the student, staff or officer were reported, police said.
According to police, the child faces charges of battery on a school employee, battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting with violence, disruption of an educational institution, and depriving an officer of means of communication.
