Palm Bay to install school-zone cameras to catch speedsters. Here’s when

PALM BAY, Fla. – On Thursday night, Palm Bay city leaders selected the company that is set to install speed-detection cameras at local school zones.

That company — RedSpeed USA — is scheduled to have the system in place and running by the start of the school year in August.

Once ready, the cameras are expected to catch drivers speeding through these school zones.

City officials said that anyone caught speeding at least 10 mph over the speed limit will get a $100 fine in the mail.

Proceeds from these speeding violations are also set to help beef up student protections.

According to the law, $12 from each fine issued will go toward efforts like school security and improving the safety of students’ walking conditions.

Meanwhile, $60 from each fine will be kept by the local government to set up speed detection systems in school zones or pursue other public safety projects.
