ORLANDO, Fla. – A man was arrested on Monday after an armed home invasion last month ended with a fatal shooting, according to the Orlando Police Department.
Police announced that the man — identified as Shawn Spencer III, 18 — faces charges of murder while engaged in burglary and armed burglary with a firearm.
In a release, police said they responded to the Jernigan Gardens apartments around 1:14 p.m. on Jan. 30 after receiving calls about a shooting there.
Upon arrival, they found 18-year-old Kevin Dewayne Hodges in a breezeway at the complex, having suffered a gunshot wound, the release shows. Hodges later died from his injuries.

Detectives said they learned during the investigation that there was an armed home invasion at the complex, and a resident had fired at the suspect.
At the time, police said a second victim was also found inside an apartment with a gunshot wound, though that victim was taken to the hospital in stable condition.
Spencer was later taken into custody.
Police have not provided details about Spencer’s specific role in last month’s shooting. News 6 has reached out to OPD for more information and is awaiting a response.
