EAGLE PASS, Tex. – On Monday night, News 6 showed exclusive footage of Florida Highway Patrol troopers working to tamp down on illegal immigration at the U.S.-Mexico border in Texas.
Troopers were sent to Texas as part of Operation Lone Star, which was effected in response to mass illegal immigration along the border.
Earlier this month, News 6 investigator Mike DeForest went to Eagle Pass — a small town along the border that saw a huge influx of migrants in December — to scope out what troopers were up to.
Since News 6 released the footage from his investigation, viewer comments flooded in to share their thoughts on the story.

On Tuesday evening, DeForest — along with News 6 anchors Matt Austin and Ginger Gadsden — discussed some of these comments and responded to viewer feedback.
One comment stated the following:
The attempt to make this a bad thing and sensationalize by WKMG with the rhetoric is appalling. Try just reporting the facts of it and let the public make up its mind as to whether it’s good or bad.

“We absolutely agree with this viewer here. We believe the public should be able to make up its own mind,” DeForest said. “If you go back and look at our report, it does not express any opinions. Video that you see shows exactly what we saw with our own eyes.”
