ORLANDO, Fla. – Police in Orlando arrested a 30-year-old man in connection with a shooting late Wednesday where a 21-year-old man was killed and six others were wounded.
Wayne Grant Jr. was arrested by the agency’s fugitive investigative unit on Thursday. He’s facing charges of aggravated battery with a firearm.
The fatal shooting happened around 11 p.m. in the area of Ironwedge Drive and South Lake Orlando Parkway.

Orlando police said officers were called to the area and discovered seven victims, including James Jerry Dawn William III, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
The other six victims were taken to the hospital and were expected to survive, police said Thursday in a statement.
According to police, the incident began around 3 p.m. Wednesday in the same location. Police said officers were called to the area for an alleged assault with weapons and it was reported that a disagreement occurred due to a vehicle not being returned by a mutually agreed-upon date.
“An individual involved in the incident desired prosecution for the alleged assault, however, the suspect was not located,” police said in a statement. “Officers did issue a trespass warning for one of the individuals involved in the alleged disagreement.”
An affidavit for Grant’s arrest warrant gives more detail, stating he was the individual who was trespassed after allegedly threatening a witness at their residence while “looking for a vehicle” Wednesday afternoon. The witness told police that Grant kept leaving and returning to the residence, back again around 11:02 p.m. with other people when the verbal argument and subsequent shooting ensued, according to the document.
“We are still in the process of sorting out the roles of those injured and identifying the suspects,” police said. “We do know there was an exchange of gunfire between two groups and OPD has developed and are working leads in this case. We do believe this is an isolated and targeted incident.”
At his first appearance in court on Friday, Grant was given a $500,000 bond. A judge ordered that Grant have no contact with victims and witnesses, that he cannot return to the incident location and that he cannot possess any weapons and/or firearms.
Detectives are still investigating and looking for more information.
