Fake parking ticket placed on car in New Smyrna Beach, police say

Police ask residents to report fake citations

NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. – A fake parking ticket was found on a vehicle in New Smyrna Beach, prompting police to issue a warning Wednesday.

Though the New Smyrna Beach police department’s initial statement on social media said that “people are placing FAKE (sic) parking citations on vehicles,” News 6 reached out to police and have since learned that only one fake ticket incident has so far been reported.

Police provided an image of the handwritten ticket, which states the following:

NSB Parking Ticket

Call [REDACTED]

$100.00 Fine

30 day to be paid.

According to an incident report, a woman was at the Outriggers Bar and Grill on Saturday, having paid to park in the nearby city parking lot.

After she returned to her car, she found the phony citation on an index card.

The report shows that the woman had tried calling the number and went to the website, but the number was invalid and the website wouldn’t load.

She was later told by police that it was not a real parking ticket and that it was a scam.

Police explained that they do not issue parking tickets via handwritten notes, and they asked that anyone who may receive one to report it immediately.

Anyone with questions about whether they have a parking ticket are urged to call (386) 424-2238 or email nchapman@cityofnsb.com.
