3rd arrest announced in shooting at Deltona park

DELTONA, Fla. – Two teens and a man have been arrested amid an investigation into gunshots fired at a park Tuesday in Deltona, according to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to the reported shooting at Wes Crile Park, arriving around 5:30 p.m. to meet with witnesses who said they saw two young males with firearms in the back of the park, the sheriff’s office said on social media. According to the witnesses, several people could be seen running away after shots were heard.

According to deputies, Ethan Fontaine, 24, met with the two teens, a 16-year-old and 17-year-old, for a drug deal.

“During the exchange, the two teenagers pulled handguns and robbed Fontaine at gunpoint,” deputies said.

The sheriff’s office said Fontaine left, came back with a rifle and pointed it toward the teens, who then fired in Fontaine’s direction but missed.

The teens were taken into custody and face charges of shooting at a public building. The 17-year-old was additionally charged with possession of a firearm by a juvenile and carrying a concealed weapon. There could be additional charges for them as the investigation continues.

Fontaine was arrested and faces charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and violation of probation.

The incident caused temporary disruption to nearby activities, such as Presidential Preference Primary voting at a polling place, according to sheriff’s officials.
