‘Spirit of Daytona Beach:’ Video shows good Samaritans flipping car that overturned in crash

No serious injuries, driver cited for failure to obey red light

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Good Samaritans stopped in the middle of a Daytona Beach intersection Tuesday afternoon to help flip a car upright after a crash, according to the police department.

The Daytona Beach Police Department shared video Wednesday on Facebook showing the aftermath of the crash at International Speedway and Fentress boulevards.

“This is the spirit of Daytona Beach,” the department wrote. “... Several passing cars stopped to help, and together they flipped the car back upright.”

The video shows an SUV turning left when it is hit on the driver’s side by a white vehicle. The crash causes the SUV to rotate and flip onto the passenger side.

Several vehicles stop and people jump out of their vehicles to check on the driver before helping flip the SUV.

Police said there were no serious injuries.

According to a Florida traffic crash report, witnesses stated the SUV that flipped ran a red light and was struck in the intersection as a result. Its driver was issued a citation for failure to stop at a steady red signal, the report states.
