Childs faces charges of shooting at, within or into a building, discharging a firearm on residential property, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and three counts of attempted first-degree murder, police said.

On Sept. 22, 2023, Orlando police responded to a reported shooting among a large group of people fighting in a courtyard at the Jernigan Gardens Apartments in the 1400 block of Mercy Drive. A woman who had been shot there — identified as Macayla Queen Patterson, 22 — was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead, police said.

Officers obtained a description of a vehicle that reportedly left the scene, soon locating it and initiating a pursuit that ended at Old Winter Garden Road and Duncan Place. Three subjects inside of the vehicle were detained, one of whom had suffered a gunshot wound and was hospitalized in critical condition. A third individual who had been shot was dropped off at a hospital and a fourth person injured in the shooting was also eventually hospitalized, police said.

Childs’ alleged involvement in the events of Sept. 22, 2023, was not detailed any further in the statement issued Thursday by Orlando police.
