NAPLES, Fla. – A metal object, possibly a piece of space junk, crashed into a Florida home, piercing the roof, going through the second story and landing on the bottom floor, WINK-TV reported.

The bizarre event happened the afternoon of March 8 in Naples, with homeowner Alejandro Otero telling the TV station that the 2-pound object caused quite the scare, nearly striking his son.

“It was a tremendous sound. It almost hit my son. He was two rooms over and heard it all,” Otero told WINK-TV.

He posted video that captured the sound of the crash on X, writing, “Here’s a clip from the sound of it crashing into my roof with a timestamp.”

Otero, who was on vacation at the time of the out-of-this-world incident, said his first thought was that it was a meteorite.

After cutting vacation short and examining the object, Otero said he believes the object came from space.

The U.S. Space Command recorded reentry of a piece of debris from the space station five minutes before Otero’s home was struck, according to Ars Technica.

“I was shaking. I was completely in disbelief. What are the chances of something landing on my house with such force to cause so much damage,” he said. “I’m super grateful that nobody got hurt.”

An estimated cost of the damage to Otero’s home is not known.

News 6 has reached out to NASA to see if the agency is investigating the incident.
