”We would like to commend our Clermont Police Officers for their quick response as well as our Detectives for their dedication and commitment resulting in the successful identification and arrest of the suspect. We would also like to thank the Groveland Police Department for its assistance,” Clermont police Chief Charles Broadway said in a statement, adding that the victim’s health had since continued to improve. “Finally, we would be remiss not to thank the Clermont community and general public for the tremendous amount of support and investigative information provided to our detectives, which resulted in this quick identification and arrest.”
The victim, another 16-year-old girl, was airlifted to an Orlando hospital after being located by responding Clermont officers around 9:20 p.m. Friday in the area of 5th and Carroll streets, according to earlier statements from the department. She was injured during what the police department initially described as a fight between two groups of juveniles which were allegedly determined to clash in an isolated area distant from a large event where there was already a substantial police presence, bolstered as rumor spread of a planned fight.
The girl who was arrested has not been identified by police at the time of this report.
