Seminole High School jazz band performs for community

Drum major discusses benefits of music in schools

SANFORD, Fla. – The Seminole High School jazz band showed off its skills as WKMG Hit the Road in Sanford.

The students played for the crowd as part of the News 6 live broadcast from Magnolia Square.

Before the performance, drum major David Washington said playing music is great, but getting to do it for an audience is even better.

“I think a big part of this band is how much we travel. Last year we traveled to Rome and we got to experience so many different cultures while also bringing music to other people, just like today we are traveling to the community giving our all to perform for our people,” Washington said.

Whether performing across the world or down the street, Washington said, “Music really bridges gaps.”

The band’s music will also get you out of your seat and moving your feet.

Anchor Ginger Gadsden danced back in front of the camera as she prepared to thank the students, telling them, “I got caught in the moment.”

She praised them, saying their performance was “amazing.”
