Student’s tires stolen at Merritt Island High School

Thief steals 2 tires; leaves car on cinder block, safety cone in parking lot

MERRITT ISLAND, Fla. – A family is wondering who stole two tires from the car of a Merritt Island High School senior last weekend while the Ford Flex was in the school parking lot.

Wendy Kujawski told News 6 reporter James Sparvero her son — Romeo, a baseball player — left his car parked by the baseball field when he went out with friends last Saturday.

“He figured he’d pick it up the following day at baseball,” the mother said. “And we got a call from the coach and the tires were gone. It was insane.”

The family now has the car running on two spare tires.

At the time of the burglary, the unknown thief left the bare rotors on a cinderblock and a safety cone.

“It was awful because we don’t even know if the rotors are going to be OK,” Wendy Kujawski said of the damage to the vehicle.

The mother said she doesn’t believe another student stole her son’s tires.

She believes another teenager would have gone inside the car which Romeo left unlocked.

“I feel like if it was a child, they would’ve possibly opened up the door, seen what was inside,” Wedndy Kujawski said. “I’m not sure, though. I mean, you never know.”

Now, the sheriff’s office is working to figure out who stole the tires on school property.

Surveillance video is believed to have caught the thief on camera.

“It’s unfortunate,” Wendy Kujawski said. “You would think the vehicle would be safe at the school.”
