Marion County sanitation worker killed by garbage truck tire, troopers say

MARION COUNTY, Fla. – A sanitation worker died from injuries sustained while on the job in Marion County.

The incident happened around 9 a.m. on Southeast 108th Terrace, within the Spruce Creek subdivision. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a 25-year-old employee from Ocala was loading garbage when he was struck by the garbage truck’s tire.

Marion County Fire Rescue responded to the scene and later pronounced the man dead. The 63-year-old driver of the truck was not injured.

The incident is under investigation.
