‘Anything for Selena’ market comes to Orlando for the 1st time

3rd annual event comes to Central Florida from Texas

ORLANDO, Fla. – You may be a big fan of her music or even the movie; Selena, the Tejano icon, is still making an impact across the world.

And for the first time, the “Anything for Selena” market will be taking place in Orlando this weekend.

“One of our missions for hosting markets here is to make it accessible for small business communities,” Leonar Olivares said.

She and her husband, Sergio, moved to Central Florida with their daughter a year ago from Texas.

They coordinate the event, which has been taking place in San Antonio for the last two years, but decided to give Orlando Hispanic business owners a chance.

“Just like us, we are in between having a pop-up market then having a brick and mortar and not many of us, especially Latinos, can afford a big brick and mortar,” Olivares said.

From drinks to accessories and food, the third annual “Anything for Selena” market is not only meant for fans but also to bring families and friends together too.

“We are just really excited to bring this here. We just feel like she’s just an icon and a legend and she’s still somebody for little kids like my daughter, who’s now growing up wanting to be a singer,” Olivares said.

Over 30 vendors are expected to be at the market Saturday with the majority of them being Latino business owners.

“We also noticed there was a need for small businesses to get their business out there and just having themed markets and ‘specially a Selena-themed one just was something that we always wanted to do,” Olivares explained.

The “Anything for Selena” market is on Saturday, April 20, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. outside Succulents Empire on 1700 N. Orange Avenue.

“We’re just hoping to go across the world and bring ‘Anything for Selena’ for everybody,” Olivares said.

Selena Quintanilla Perez was murdered in Corpus Christi in 1995. She was 23 years old.
