VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – A Deltona sex offender who deputies arrested earlier this month for providing a fake name during a traffic stop faces 50 new charges related to images of children on a phone he was unlawfully carrying, according to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office.

Joshua Jobe, 24, was stopped after midnight April 7 in DeLand by a sheriff’s office sergeant who saw him riding a bicycle without a light. He told the sergeant that he was a 52-year-old man named James Durben, yet another deputy who soon responded was able to properly identify him as Jobe, a known sex offender on sex offender probation who resides on Glenwood Road. Jobe’s arrest affidavit noted the same deputy had conducted several sexual offender checks on Jobe at his residence, adding he was presently violating a 10 p.m.-6 a.m. curfew that was part of his sex offender status. Jobe was then taken into custody, the affidavit states.

A second affidavit recounts events beginning the evening of April 7, when Jobe’s roommate contacted the sheriff’s office around 9 p.m. to report Jobe had left his electronic ankle monitor behind at the Glenwood Road residence. A responding deputy observed the ankle monitor on the ground and saw that the device did not appear cut, leaving investigators unsure of how he removed it.

Details shared by the sheriff’s office on social media describe what happened following deputies’ seizure of a cell phone that Jobe had on his person during the arrest, taken due to how Jobe was not allowed to have a cell phone or even access the internet as another stipulation of his sex offender status.

Detectives drafted a search warrant for the phone, discovering four internet accounts that were unregistered with the sheriff’s office, the post states. Further, the search warrant and forensic examination of the phone turned up explicit images of children and “indications he was looking to find more explicit material involving both children and animals that is too graphic to describe,” the sheriff’s office said.

Jobe faces charges of giving a false name upon being arrested or detained, tampering with an electronic monitoring device, two counts of violating probation, four counts of failing to register as a sex offender and 50 counts of possession of sexual performance by a child, booking records show.

He’s being held at the Volusia County Branch Jail on no bond.
