ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – As of Friday morning, more than 200 dogs and 100 cats were at Orange County Animal Services.
The shelter is participating in a “Mega Adoption Event” at the Strawberry Festival Fairgrounds in Plant City in an effort to get as many pets adopted as possible, though Orange County residents can still come to the shelter on Conroy Road if they wish to foster or adopt.
“People will surrender strays if they see them. If you’re driving down the street and if they see a dog, they’ll bring them here and if they are microchipped, we find out, we call up the owner,” said Zach Downes with OCAS. “The goal for the weekend is to get 150 adoptions between that event and here at the shelter.”
The shelter is providing $10 adoption fees until Sunday.

“It is kitten season and we are taking a massive influx of kittens right now because cats are breeding more and more in the warmer months. May is peak and we see a massive number of kittens coming to the shelter,” Downes said.
