Video released in Orange County deputy shooting at apartment complex

Man faces several charges, including aggravated assault with a firearm

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – Video released Tuesday shows what led to an Orange County deputy shooting a man at an apartment complex last month.

Deputies responded to Indigo Winter Park Apartments on South Semoran Boulevard on April 19 after receiving reports of a man pointing a gun at several residents, according to a release.

When law enforcement arrived, deputies heard a gunshot at the complex, officials said.

The produced video by the sheriff’s office includes body-camera video and helicopter video, which shows the chopper locating the man under a gazebo.

“I think I’ve got eyes on your guy,” a helicopter crew member is heard saying.

The sheriff’s office said the crew reported the man appeared to have a gun in his hand and later was seen running through the complex.

Multiple deputies are seen in the video going up to the man. Gunfire is heard in the body camera video and deputies yell for the man to show his hands and roll away from the weapon.

The man was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

He faces several charges, including aggravated assault with a firearm.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating and the deputy who shot the man has been on temporary, paid administrative leave pending the review.
