COCOA, Fla. – A Cocoa patrol car crashed into a ditch Tuesday afternoon after being T-boned by another vehicle during a chase, according to the police department.
In a news release, police said the officer was driving south along Clearlake Road around 2:30 p.m. while responding to help with a police chase. His lights and sirens were activated, and he was near Highway 520.

A Nissan Maxima — also heading south along Clearlake Road — failed to yield to the patrol car, the release shows.
As the officer tried to pass, the Nissan driver made “an unexpected left turn” onto Sorrento Drive, resulting in the crash, police said.

According to investigators, the patrol car rolled into a water-filled drainage ditch on the roadside.
Both the officer and the Nissan driver suffered non-life-threatening injuries from the crash.
Police have not said whether the Nissan driver will face any charges.
