Florida man in ‘Mother of Satan’ explosives case re-arrested

Jared Coburn faces new charges in Volusia County

LAKE HELEN, Fla. – A man arrested years ago on charges of possessing powerful explosives, known as “Mother of Satan” chemicals, at his Florida home has been re-arrested in Volusia County.

Jared Coburn, arrested in Lake Helen in 2018, now faces charges of violation of probation and is jailed without bond, online records show.

According to officials, bomb-making materials, including a chemical sometimes used by al-Qaida, were found in 2018 at Coburn’s home. He was arrested and later pleaded no contest.

According to the Volusia Sheriff’s Office, Coburn was arrested Wednesday after he was found with Vaseline and model glue, items of which he is not allowed to possess under the terms of his probation. In addition, court documents show that Coburn had a notebook that contained written plans to create more destructive devices.

Coburn is scheduled to appear before a judge on Thursday.
