LEESBURG, Fla. – A Leesburg store clerk was fatally shot Thursday night during a robbery, and police continue to search for the gunman.
Leesburg police on Friday said Raied Shihadeh, 51, died in the shooting, which happened around 9:05 p.m. at the Fast Stop Superette on Picciola Road, east of U.S. Highway 441.
Police said the assailant “appears to be an adult male (unconfirmed race), with a slim build.”
According to police, officers were called to the store Thursday for a robbery and shooting and found Shihadeh unconscious on the floor with at least one apparent gunshot wound.
Shihadeh was airlifted to Ocala Regional Hospital, where he died overnight, police said.
Leesburg officers conducted an extensive search with the K-9 team and a helicopter, but the culprit was not found. Leesburg detectives and CSI canvassed nearby businesses but also did not locate the assailant.
Leesburg police released a photo of the suspected shooter, who was wearing a reddish-color hoodie.
“If anyone observed the suspect before or after 9 p.m. (Thursday) night, or if area businesses have video from the area last night, please contact our detectives at 352.728.9862,” police said.
Further surveillance images were shared by the police department Saturday morning on social media, showing clearer views of the suspect’s facial features.
