SANFORD, Fla. – Sanford police on Friday announced a second arrest in connection to a shooting in April that stemmed from an alleged drug deal and led to the death of a 17-year-old boy.
Terrell Leon Walker, 21, was located in Georgia and taken into custody by the Albany-Dougherty Special Investigative Unit, the Sanford Police Department said on social media. An arrest warrant had been issued for Walker to face charges of second-degree murder and attempted robbery with a firearm, Deputy Chief Trekelle Perkins said in April.
Walker is the second person so far taken into custody following the fatal shooting of 17-year-old Sadarion Cosby. The first to be arrested was identified as 15-year-old Zion Carter, who also faces charges of second-degree murder and attempted robbery with a firearm, Sanford police said.

The shooting happened around 8 p.m. on April 9 near the intersection of Ellen Place and Scott Drive in the Washington Oaks neighborhood, according to Sanford police. Cosby was among a group of four people who approached a parked Kia K5 sedan for the purpose of conducting a drug deal, Perkins said. After about 15 seconds, someone in the group allegedly pulled out a gun and attempted to rob the driver, at which point Perkins said that the driver — who was also armed — fired one round that struck Cosby in the abdomen.
“The driver shot in fear as he was being robbed. Cosby and the associates planned to rob the driver. A homicide occurred during the commission of a felony and the individuals responsible will be charged,” Perkins said.
A person in a multicolored hoodie — believed by investigators to be Walker — returned fire as the driver of the Kia sped away, police said. Now alone, two of the people who were with Cosby allegedly ran away as the person in the hoodie and another individual assisted Cosby to a nearby house, the occupants of which drove the 17-year-old to a hospital where he died a short time later, according to Perkins.
“Cosby’s associates lingered near the incident location attempting to hide evidence,” Perkins said. “Cosby’s associates flee after a few minutes.”
Shortly after Sanford police began investigating the shooting, Chief Cecil Smith called out the people who Cosby was with.
“A 17-year-old lost his life. His ‘friends,’ and I use that term loosely, ran (away) rather than staying and helping him. They didn’t help him get the emergency medical attention he needed, nor stay to assist law enforcement identify and locate the person(s) who took his life. Unacceptable,” Smith said.
Though the police department initially shared the following image of a vehicle related to the homicide, investigators later said that a license plate reader was able to identify the “potential vehicle” in reference to the Kia. A social media tip reportedly helped officers locate the driver, but investigators have declined to identify them.
A third person who has not yet been identified was still sought in the shooting per the police department’s latest statements on the matter.
