CASSELBERRY, Fla. – As strong storms swept through Central Florida on Thursday, the wind became powerful enough to blow down the awning at a gas station in Casselberry.
Fire officials said that the incident happened around 7:34 p.m. at the 7-Eleven gas station along Howell Branch Road and SR-436.
News 6 reporter Treasure Roberts went to the scene on Thursday night, discovering that the awning collapsed on top of a car — and that people were inside the vehicle.
While no one was injured, first responders blocked off the area, and the nearby gas pumps were “quickly” shut off, according to the Seminole County Fire Department.

The car was eventually towed away, though the tow truck driver told News 6 that the car might be able to be repaired.
“They said they pulled it out, and there is a bit of damage to the engine and to the windows, but they believe that family will be able to drive that car again,” Roberts reported.
Orlando Terrán, the car’s owner, told News 6 that he was shaken up by the ordeal.
“Nervous because of what happened,” Terrán said, translated from Spanish. “It came on top of the car. I was with my wife. Everything went very fast.”
Meanwhile, all pumps have been shut down until further notice. No additional information was provided about when they will be usable again.
