Jodi Benson stars in ‘Hello, Dolly!’ musical in downtown Orlando

Show running at Dr. Phillips Center Friday, Saturday inside Steinmetz Hall

ORLANDO, Fla. – The musical based on Thornton Wilder’s “The Matchmaker” will have a familiar face in the starring role.

Disney legend Jodi Benson, known for playing Ariel in “The Little Mermaid” and other animated works, will be playing Dolly Gallagher Levi in Encore! Performing Arts’ production of “Hello, Dolly!”

The musical is based in 1910 Yonkers. As a professional matchmaker, Dolly is happy to dole out advice on romance and marriage. She then meets wealthy and widowed Horace Vandergelder, who hires her to find him a second wife, and the two gallivant through New York City.

The show first made history on Broadway in 1964, when it won 10 Tony Awards, including Best Musical.

Buying tickets for the show will also be support a good cause.

Encore! Performing Arts is partnering with Give Kids the World Village, a local nonprofit resort that provides critically ill kids and their families week-long wish vacations at no cost.

Tickets start at $29. It looks like Friday and Saturday night’s shows are already sold out. Limited tickets remain for the 2 p.m. show on Saturday.
