Mother of girl accused of fatally shooting woman in Orlando sentenced to 5 years in prison

Lakrisha Isaac, 33, faced maximum 20-year sentence

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – A mother whose daughter is accused of fatally shooting a woman in Orlando will spend the next five years behind bars.

Lakrisha Isaac, 33, faced a maximum 20-year sentence following a plea bargain she made in May, changing her plea from not guilty to no contest on charges of manslaughter and culpable negligence by leaving a loaded firearm within reach of a minor.

The mother was given a 128-day credit for time served on her sentence. Following her prison sentence, Isaac will spend three years on probation and must submit to parenting class as a condition of that probation.

“To the family, I am so sorry for your loss. Sometimes we find justice in other ways. If this is something you are struggling with, I can tell you that each and every one of us understands your struggle,” said Judge Kevin B. Weiss.

The shooting happened about two years ago, on May 30, 2022, at the Jernigan Gardens Apartments on Mercy Drive.

A witness described Isaac’s daughter getting hold of the gun after her mother handed her a bag with the firearm inside it, soon using it to shoot a woman who Isaac allegedly approached and started a physical fight with. The victim — identified by police as Lashun Rodgers, 41 — was reportedly having a cookout with her boyfriend for Memorial Day at the time. Rodgers was shot twice and later died at the hospital, police said.

Isaac was arrested and later released on bond. The girl — who was 10 years old at the time of the shooting — was also arrested shortly thereafter, but the Orange-Osceola State Attorney’s Office said in a statement that no charging decision was made. News 6 asked the state attorney’s office for an update last month in this regard — due in part to how State Attorney Andrew Bain replaced Monique Worrell in August 2023 — but we were told it was unable to comment on any cases involving a juvenile.
