Winn-Dixie receipt helps Florida deputies track down suspects in 860-pound trash dump

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – Volusia County deputies arrested three men accused of dumping 860 pounds of trash near a nature preserve.

James Alan Dunne, 51, of Daytona Beach; Connor James Dunne, 21, of Ormond Beach; and Kyle Richard Hayes, 24, of Daytona Beach; each face a charge of littering over 500 pounds, records show.

On the morning of June 2, deputies were called about a load of trash that had been dumped on 9 Mile Point Road near Pierson, right in front of the entrance to the Lake George Wildlife Management Area, according to the sheriff’s office.

Body-worn camera video shows one of the deputies discovering a Winn-Dixie receipt.

Deputies said they reviewed surveillance video at the Winn-Dixie of the transaction to identify the suspects, as well as their vehicle. Investigators said they were able to get a confession during questioning.

Deputies said the three men had just completed an insulation job before dumping the trash so that they wouldn’t have to deal with going to the dump.

Connor Dunne was booked Monday, Hayes was booked Tuesday and James Dunne was booked Wednesday, records show. Each was given a $2,500 bond.
