‘Swinging through the summer:’ Nestico Night comes to Central Florida

MELBOURNE, Fla. – Looking for a night out full of classic tunes and a celebration of musical history? The Swingtime Concert, presented by the Melbourne Municipal Band, is coming to Melbourne this month.

In honor of legendary composer Sammy Nestico’s 100th birthday, the ensemble, conducted by Kurt Schulenburg, is presenting “Nestico Night: A Not-in-the-Park Concert.” The free event will be hosted July 17-18 at 6:30 p.m. in the Melbourne Auditorium.

Composer and arranger Sammy Nestico was born 100 years ago, and left “an unmatched legacy of music,” according to the event’s website. This event aims to commemorate his impact on the industry and the best of his published works, including pieces written for Count Basie, Frank Sinatra, Sarah Vaughan and more.
