EDGEWATER, Fla. – Edgewater police busted a “street takeover” in the early hours of Sunday morning, according to the police department.
In a release, police announced they’d encountered over 30 vehicles driving recklessly at the Parktowne Industrial Complex.
Several of these drivers took off when approached by law enforcement, sparking police chases, the release shows.
Dashcam video released by the police department shows fleeing drivers traveling onto the grass on the shoulder of the road and into the median.
“Such reckless disregard for public safety is utterly unacceptable,” the release reads. “We managed to arrest two individuals, but our work is far from over.”

Following the incident, investigators are now searching for the rest of the drivers involved.
“We WILL identify those involved. We WILL impound vehicles used in this reckless act,” the release continues. “And rest assured, ANYONE who participated in this criminal activity WILL go to jail.”
Drivers who participated in the street takeover are urged to turn themselves in before investigators find them.
Earlier this month, a new Florida law (SB 1764) went into effect, which enhances the penalties associated with street racing and street takeovers.
Under that law, a “street takeover” is considered any situation where at least 10 cars are organized to take over a street. Drivers and spectators can face hefty fines or criminal charges for their participation.
